What is all that stuff anyway?

A bunch of junk

The above is mostly a picture of my linux server. It served up this page for you and also runs my email and DNS services. It's a simple Linux box running on a Pentium I class 133Mhz PC with 32 Megs of ram. It's the thing that looks like a computer in the picture with a balloon Bert taped to it (go here for that story).

The computer is sitting on top of a small dorm style refrigerator which we keep very cold (just above freezing) and keep our Pepsi in it. Notice the cool "white trash" fridge magnets.

The black and silver thing to the left of the computer is the SDSL bridge (sometimes called a modem). Its a Efficient Networks 5250 and is the thing that connects me to my ISP Speakeasy. I purchase a 384/384 SDSL connection from them (which really was 384/128 ADSL but the technology didn't work out that way :). Unfortunately, the service that I get isn't offered by Speakeasy (or Covad whom Speakeasy uses to connect me to them) any longer. Anyway, I have been very happy with their service and even though my loop is 15.5k feet in length and it really shouldn't work at all. I've been with speakeasy since December of 1999.

To the left of the SDSL bridge are two cases of blank CD's.

To the left of those is my left speaker.

Behind the CD's is a box of ball point pens.

In the bottom right are three Ty Beanie Babies. They are just a few of the ones we have around here :)

The Beanies are sitting on top of my primary computer monitor. Its a IBM P200 20 inch multi-sync monitor which I got for Christmas from my Mom (who got it from Boeing Surplus for $150 - a great deal for a great monitor).

That's it for the picture. Since I took it I have changed a few things. I have added an 8 port 10/100 switch (D-link DSS-8+) which is now on top of the computer and I have moved my 8 port Tbase10 hub to where the ball point pens are now. To the right of my primary computer monitor is a second small 14 inch color CRT which I have plugged into the linux server. I use it to view the logs in real time. I usually have the main logs in one virtual screen and the web logs in another. Sometimes I run top in a third. The keyboard for the linux box is barely visible in the picture. Its sitting on top of the IBM monitor.
